Wonderfully bitter, angry, dangerous poetry from Rob Halford fantasist, Debbie Kirk. To visit Debbie's own website, click here
Debbie Kirk drives a hearse and eats gummy bears. She feels strange referring to herself in the third person. She dosen't care much for poetry, she merely writes as part of her longterm plan. Obviously, poetry in small zines will make her rich, and fast! She will then use that money to make explosives and figure out some way to turn numbers into colors.
Her strangest sexual fantasy is to be a gay man for one day and have sex with Rob Halford of Judas Priest. She got this statement at gunpoint from a vagrant for her bio: "Debbie Kirtt, she's an OK broad. Don't mug her, also she bought me a 40 oz." She is currently stalking Jack Black (no restraining order yet.)
Comprehensive guide to zines and alternative publications. Each large issue is packed with hundreds of reviews of independent and unusual publications.
The mission of Mystery Island is to go beyond the various forms of mind control that hold us all inside our puzzle boxes, to create new and exciting venues for artists to express themselves with the raw paint splatter of heart that remains missing in the mainstream media/medium.
One of the best sites for exciting new poetry and fiction on the net, Zygote in my Coffee is a bi-weekly online lit mag which welcomes submissions of fiction, poetry, commentary, one act plays, erotica, reviews, photography etc. My thanks to editor, Brian, for getting in touch with Debbie to ask her to submit to the showcase. The Johnny Cash poem on the right was originally published in Zygote in my Coffee.

Our lusty Atlantis
Our own
Lucky pennies
lining the bottom
Of unlivable squalor
I wonder if mermaids
Remove their clam shall coverings
When they swim by
For pearl necklaces
Or if you can just buy them now
On ebay
A place
That had the perfect mix
Of class and debauchery
A place where Jack Micheline
Walked many a mile
In someone elses
Dimestore shoes
They say they will rebuild
They say they can rebuild
I wonder how long before
Us dumb humans
Will no longer build
Neither graves nor tombs
But simply throw bodies
In the water
Not with flames and ceremonies
For leaders of even the most evil causes
More of a shove off
To clear room
For more dry cleaning
Tyrants.
Gargoyles floating
With bodies and oil
Would make a good photograph
But not for a family album
But I look around myself
And ask
What is a family anyway
But one more hierarchy
To impose order.
Viva la new Orleans<
May all the dead
Walk the earth
Zombies
Real horror show like
And some bad 80s band
Will do the soundtrack
And may the rotting corpses
Kill every last one
Of you motherfuckers
That are clouding up our gene pool
With lawnmower hummers
Palm pilots
Non-narcotic pain killers (bastards)
Clean white socks
funding gentrification
As their own homes
Slide off mountains.
Then,
We can fucking rebuild.

'LITTLE FRANKENSTEIN GIRL'
Little Frankenstein girl
has the hands of a pianist
And the heart of a broken organ
With thorns, glass
Bats and Indian ink
Seeping thro
Sewn together
Crookedly stitched
Like a pastel valentine heart
Filled with mismatched parts
Little Frankenstein girl
Has the right brain of a killer
Her right hand is dominant
While her left foot always faces away
Wanting to disconnect
To run
To be free
To not be part of this
Fucked up experiment
Dreamt up by
A genius dressed in rags
And chased by demons
The kind that really scratch and bite
When you are fast asleep
Little Frankenstein girl
Is not a little girl anymore
The curls in her hair
Dreaded up in the sun
Medusa in the wind
Her loud strong voice
Muffled under the stitches
That firmly binds her lips together
Bondage bringing pleasure
Only to those who wish
To keep her silent
(and they are many)
The little Frankenstein girl
Cant count the stitches on her wrists
From all of those nights
With her right hand doing
What her left foot
Wanted to walk away from
And her not understanding
That she was never really alive
In the first place
Little Frankenstein girl
All mixed up
And
Mix matched
Returning every evening
With fresh wounds to be sewn
From another vain attempt
To be mortal for just a few seconds
Before the fall
Little Frankenstein girl
Stolen parts
Come with stolen lies
Maggots and flies.
The gravedigger, looking to make a buck
Steals her a kiss
The moistness quenches her lips
He promises more kisses tomorrow
She scurries home
Knowing full well
Shes damned to a life of stolen kisses
And malfunctioning hearts
that spit in the moonlight.

'IT WILL TAKE THE BLOOD OF ANOTHER TO MAKE ME CLEAN'
I want to cast a love spell
a heart shaped noose
around those who have raped me
I want to waltz down south
bust in on the snake handlers
and me,
Medusa.
With all of them fingering and taming
my dirty slinky locks.
i want the wrong things
for the right reasons
feel my disease when you sit next to me on the bus
hear the black pieces jingle inside when you break my heart
no psychobabble terms
can describe my affliction
no pills take it away
sure, they take it somewhere else
but in the morning its back.
Sitting on the end of my bed and looking at me.
An eye for an eye
and I've just seen all too much
smash out your teeth
one by one
i think it will take the blood of another
to make me clean
and I think that when we are at that swimming hole
and I ask you to hold me under,
I'm asking you to save me.
And I really think if you loved me,
you'd do it.

'COWBOYS AND INDIANS'
When I was little I liked to pretend that I was an Indian.
My sister and I would pick berries in the field behind the house
And paint our faces with them
Like warriors
Young smiling faces with halos
And red red songs of war
Everyone knew about Cowboys and Indians
And mostly people wanted to be the Cowboy.
I wanted to be the Indian
And so I think I was.
Ive never slaughtered a bull and used its hide for warmth
But Ive strangled the moon,
Shaking out words to hide under
Ive killed plenty of cowboys though
And I can make my own weapons
From stone
Or from wood
Or from words
And I dance on their graves
Saying ancient chants
About taking back my land
It was all for play
And all make believe
Who would of thought every cowboy is carrying a gun
And The Indians with their war paint
Spend all day chanting for rain.
A flood would do us all in
And I should have eaten those poison berries
While there was still a happy ending.

'CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE CALL MY BOSS AND TELL HIM I WONT BE INTO WORK ANYMORE? IM SERIOUS, I CANT CALL HIM. THE NUMBER IS (512) 467-9438'
It all kinda hit me at once
I asked you if Flash Gordon could breathe underwater
You rented a truck
We were on the way to California
Been high for days
And then I got word that hunter
Went out.
Its sad
That I am such a shitty employee
And couldnt walk up to my boss Jeff,
(about whom Ive had many sexual fantasies)
and say Jeff, I love this job. But I was raped a year ago,
and now im going away to therapy
I mean, if I tell him that
I can never use him for a reference for anything
But something else I left uncompleted
I always have an excuse
But I think this time my friends were right
When they thought I needed to buy a dime bag
To make it to rehab
Im an asshole
Im sorry I didnt call you
Instead I just kinda slept
And drank and smoked
And the next thing I knew
I thought I was talking to Johnny Cash
And maybe I was
So, Jeff I will be unable to make sandwiches for you
Because Im going to LA to get rehab and find myself sic
I shouldve known I wasnt ready for a day job
When it pissed me off to stop painting to go to work.
You were a cool boss
And (I mentioned) kinda cute
So,
What do you think my chances are
Of getting a job with you in the future
After Ive lived in California
And have had time to develop as a person?
Mostly,
Thank you for all the weed connections.

'JOHNNY CASH, WHISKY AND ME UNDER A TABLE WITHOUT SHOES'
Im putting my foot down today.
Which is probably a good idea, cause standing with one leg on shaky ground
is quite a gamble.
Its no secret, I was born to lose, born lost even
But I can make out the sign for the liquor store ahead and today that
means Ive found god.
Sometimes you have to do whatever it takes.
Whatever it takes, just to distract yourself from the open window
and the no frills fast departure.
At least I got no one calling me up wasting my time.
But I never drink alone,
I always drink with Johnny Cash.
Every time I take my first drink, I know how the evening will end
hell drink me right under the table where I belong.
I dont know if Im drunk or hung over anymore.
I have no sense, and I dont see that changing any time soon.
Ive got holes in my pockets anyway
and today, Im just gonna stay down here with Johnny
He takes it away for seconds
Seconds that feel like weeks
And thats the best I can hope for.
Cause tomorrow Im putting my foot down again
and if I can find my shoesthe music will stop

'JUST ANOTHER DAY'
So, my mother called me up last night.
Which is usually about as pleasant as a visit
to see the Gynecologist.
She tells me she is having serious health problems.
Of course I offer plastic sympathy.
When what I really want to say is:
Yeah, well Ive had serious fucking problems my whole life
because of you. The state found you to be an unfit mother,
and I have found you unfit of even being a friend.
But I dont.
So I start thinking, if she ends up really sick and
on her death bed.....I have to do that thing that
people do with smoke and mirrors
and forgive her for everything.
So that years down the road, I will have no regrets.
Im a pretty goddamned good liar,
but I dont think I can pull that off.
I want to be the one to pull the fucking plug
I want to be the one to push the red button
that Ive been searching for, for years.
I want to put a pillow over her helpless sick
face when the nurse leaves the room to get Jello.
I want I want I want to be 5 all over again, and
we could start everything all new.
But I am just not capable of comforting her.
Even though my jigsaw brain has never been complete,
she breaks my heart over and over and over....
Yeah, life really knows how to throw the punches....
But, you can go tell life that I learned to fight in bars,
and even though its had me down before, this time
Im not gonna fight fair

'NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD LUCID WORDS'
Isn't where all the words come from?
The beautiful asylum that makes you bite your lip
until it bleeds.
The stupid breakup
The sweater that's not in your closet anymore
"You have zero voice messages."
But isn't this where you were so content
once before?
A line drawn in the sand with the beak of a sparrow
and all of them
over there.
How did it become the fall of redemption that Damien
in the Exorcist made down all those stairs?
When the fuck did solitude become a cage that was
way too small and constrictive?
I think this is when you are supposed to pull
the sleepy words up out of their graves
and make them dance.
It was inevitable...
once you open the freezer door in the garage
and pull out the frozen meat and flesh
you have to know that blood
won't be too far behind.
The hoof prints in the snow
remind me of a reindeer
Christmas time always did illuminate
the breath from my sighs
and make me feel minus one
No matter how many fuckers were around
So, I'm supposed to get the best lines here
but we haven't had snow in Texas forever
And I'd rather stay behind the burning house
than spit these words onto paper
Trying to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

'THE LAST SONG'
Maybe happiness is a warm gun
if I had one,
it would surely be hot
But we've got to start from scratch
I played tic-tac-toe with a chicken in Vegas once
and lost
A gun would trim the fat
ducks in a row
neatly and slow
I've been dreaming about playing with fire
maybe raise our own steaks
dancing flames
would put a smile on this face
Once I was told
not to stand to close to the fire
that someday
I would get burned
I already had that planned
as my finishing act.
So thanks for ruining my punch line, fucker
Got a light?

'NARCOTICS AND KNIVES'
I think if I were to get rid of my television, I would add about 20 years to my life.
Which is precisely why I sleep with it on every night.
I spend my time pecking away on my keyboard,
like the chicken that I am.
And pacing the floor, chain-smoking to keep my hands away from the knife.
Fast food, Narcotics, cigarettes, carbon monoxide, moths are everywhere...
and theres lightbulbs over my lipstick.....keeping my hands away from the knife.
Even the cutting edge poets, have dulled their senses so much that they just
cant fall down low enough.
But I cant say that these white pills havent been a friend of mine, especially when Im already laying down.
The darkness even keeps me from the knife.
And today it hurts me to the moon and back.
A moon which I dont believe in anymore.
I just cant die fast enough.
And if it werent for the music I can sometimes get from the words,
I wouldve traded in my pen for a bottle years ago.
And the ones of us who truly feel every second of every hour of every day,
will probably be left here the longest.
I choose between Narcotics and Knives everyday.
Today, its great to be high.
Tomorrow Im gonna flip a coin.
