Peter McCowatt

Peter is a member of the Waverley Masonic Lodge #597 in Edinburgh

Born: 23 March 1947 in Leith Hospital

Q: When/why did you first start drinking in the Tynecastle Arms?

A: I was first in the pub when I was about 12, to use the toilet. I used to sell Hearts programmes on the corner, with my dad on match days and needed to go. Officially started drinking here about 1967. It was the best boozer around locally at the time

Q: Why do you keep going in?:

A: Apart from the clientele, they do a great pint of 70 Shilling

Q: What's your favourite tipple?

A: A pint of that 70 Shilling

Q: What's your favourite film?

A: James Stewart in 'It's a Wonderful Life'

Q: What is your favourite song?

A: I like lots of types of music, but particulary like Neil Diamond. He's my favourite singer

Q: What is your favourite film?

A: 'Jesus Christ Superstar' - I first saw it in the ABC Regal with the Dolby sound.

Q: What part of Edinburgh should every visitor coming to the city see?

A: The shopping areas, particularly Princes Street, plus all the famous sights, history and nightlife. It's a city you could spend weeks in and still not see it all. If they wanted a drink, they could try the BMC club at Westfield, if they can find someone to sign them in. I've been a member for 25 years and its one of the better clubs in Edinburgh. They could also go 10 pin bowling. That's my favourite sport. I'm a member of the Murrayfield Indoor Sports Club and have been playing for 35 years. I got a 566 on Friday and was the top scorer out of 2 teams

Q: What don't you like about Edinburgh?

A: There's nothing I dislike about it.

Peter's 5 Favourite Things About Thailand

1. The people go out of their way to make you feel welcome
2. The weather
3. Walking Street in Pattaya is fantastic. On Friday and Saturday nights, they block the street from cars and put out chairs and tables and you can eat and drink for as long as you want
4. Unofficially, the bars have no such thing as opening or closing hours. Officially they are supposed to shut at 2, but unofficially, it's a different story. Plus, the local beer is deadly stuff
5. Thai folk speak most languages, including English
