MARTIN COYLE

Born: 25 August 1955 at East Arthur Place in the Southside of Edinburgh. I lived there till I was 5 then moved to Craigmillar. In those days that's what you got if your parents were Irish. Do you want my religion as well? I'm a Cathaholic

Q: When/why did you first start drinking in the Tynecastle Arms?

A: When I first met my wife, Alison we used to drink in the BMC club, then we moved to Murieston in 1985 and started coming in here. Can't believe it was 18 years ago. I remember the day we were moving house, it was Cup Final day. Dundee were playing Dundee United and Dundee won 2-1. I'll always remember it. We were moving in the furniture and I was desperately trying to get the TV set up to watch the game

Why do you keep going in?:

A: It's the nearest one to us and also, unlike some of the others, it doesn't have an ambulance and police outside it every Friday night. You get used to all the people as well. It's a habit I suppose. Everything in life is a habit. And I'm a Hibby

Q: What is your favourite tipple?

A: Tennent's Lager. I've always drunk lager since I started drinking when I was about 16/17

Q: What is your favourite song/band?

A: I'm a huge fan of David Bowie. I saw him in the Glasgow Empire two years in a row in the early 70's. I've been a fan ever since. I couldn't get a ticket when he played Murrayfield but I lived nearby so we had the window open, a summers day, sitting with beers, listening to it. It was a great day. I'm just after buying his Greatest Hits. I've listened to it several times and every song is a classic. It's hard to pick a favourite but it would probably be 'Ashes to Ashes'. I also like Queen, T-Rex, Roxy Music and Supertramp. Supertramp's albums, 'Crisis What Crisis' and 'Crime of the Century' are classics. Used to buy a lot of Steve Harley as well. I could listen to any of them, an time. I basically like all types of music. Anything that makes my feet tap

Q: What is your favourite film?

A: Like films about jails. Like that one 'An Innocent Man' with Tom Selleck where he has to kill a man to get out of jail. Also, I'll tell you who I really like. Columbo. My wife'll tell you. I like the way he does it and I always tape it if I'm going to be out

Q: What place in Edinburgh do you think every visitor to the city should see?

A: The remains of 16th century building which they found when they excavated the Tron Kirk. I also like The Royal Mile and the old vaults under the South Bridge are fascinating. You couldn't possibly visit Edinburgh and not see them. They could also go to see a football match - either Hearts or Hibs, depending what they like. I'd take them wherever they wanted once I got to know them and found out what they'd enjoy. They should also go to the top of Arthur Seat, depending on their age, as the view of the whole of Edinburgh is fantastic from up there

Q: What don't you like about Edinburgh?

A: I cannae really think of anything. I went to live in Birmingham in 1974/75 and I couldn't wait to get back home. I wouldn't want to have a car here, because of the parking, but as I don't have one anyway, I don't really have a problem with Edinburgh
