GEORGE MURRAY
Born: 18 November 1955 at the Thistle Foundation in Edinburgh. I was born at 11.15pm. If I'd held on for another 46 minutes I would have been born on my mum's birthday, although she is older than me Q: When/why did you first start drinking in the Tynecastle Arms? A: I used to work in the Government Offices in Broomhouse. When I was 18, I used to pop in on my way home. That was in 1973 Q: Why do you still drink here? A: I'm the postie in Gorgie and I can always come in here and tap a couple of pints off Stevie when I'm skint Q: What is your favourite tipple? A: McEwan's 80 Shilling. They do an excellent pint of it in here Q: What is your favourite song/band? A: My favourite album of all time is Carole King's 'Tapestry.' I got record tokens for my 21st birthday and I bought 'Tapestry' with them. Then I lent it to my daughter and never got it back. The greatest hits just isn't the same. I also like Simon and Garfunkel. At my funeral, I'd like 'Spirit in the Sky', the original by Norman Greenbaum. That's what my wife wants at her funeral as well, though hopefully she'll get it first.
Q: What is your favourite film? A: 'Apollo 13' because it's 99% factual and the acting's good. Q: What place in Edinburgh do you think every visitor to the city should see?
A: I love standing underneath the Forth Railway Bridge. I'd have loved to have seen one of the old steam trains going over it. I also really like the National Gallery of Scotland at the bottom of the Mound. Q: What don't you like about Edinburgh? A: It's very dirty and too near Glasgow.
