Extract from the poem 'JerUSAlem'

Lance Dearborn: It seemed the whole world was turning upside down;
the war going warped in ‘Nam, niggers getting uppity
on the back of Luther King, commies on campus,
faculties full of faggots, flag-burning hippies
on the five o’ clock news –
James Ellison: I saw the signs of the coming tribulation
and led the loyal of my flock to a fastness
in the mountains. Zarephath-Horeb
I called it. We lived elect and separate,
by scripture and prophecy, preparing
for the End Time –
Pamela Dearborn: Pastor Jim had this place, wild in the Ozarks.
We’d go there on retreat, pray together,
study scripture. The Pastor would preach,
and boy, could he just; his voice was like thunder,
a waterfall, like roaring fire –
James Ellison: In those days, nation shall rise against nation,
sons will turn against their Fathers;
miscegeny and murder shall reign,
and wheresoever the mulatta carcasses drop,
there shall eagles gather –
Lance Dearborn: The Pastor proved from the scriptures
that Armaggedon was at hand. We gave up
our silly secular lives to prepare
together for the end-times -
Pamela Dearborn: Eight families were there at first,
each with a trailer in the compound:
but the word spread, and our fellowship increased –
Kerry Noble: I was looking for someone to show me the path
when providence brought me to Zarephath-Horeb.
When I saw Jim preach I was mesmerised.
I knew I’d found my shepherd and guide.

James Ellison: We lived as the Church under James the Lord’s brother,
sharing all things in common, on fire
with the spirit and the pentecostal tongue –

everything confirmed the imminent
Day of the Lord. We hoarded canned food
and prayed for salvation, the dedicated first fruits
of the coming tribulation –
Lance Dearborn: Around ’77 things started to change.
The Pastor revealed he was born-again David,
warrior-king of Aryan Israel –
Pamela Dearborn: The Spirit confirmed it. In Sabbath congregation,
I was stricken with tongues. The Lord gave me vision:
I saw the Pastor picking pebbles
from a dry gulch bed and loading a goatskin sling.
His every shot felled the Philistines advancing –
Kerry Noble: Pastor Millar came from Elohim City
and proclaimed him King James, Lord of the Ozarks –
Robert Millar: James was on fire with zeal for the Lord.
I anointed him for WAR -
James Ellison: Yahweh’s paternal whisper was roaring
in my ear. We were now no longer to wait
and endure, but to pour out on Babylon
the vial of God’s wrath, hastening the Day -
Wayne Snell: First thing was to get tooled. We networked
through gun shows and Hayden Lake.
We fund-raised through bank jobs and stickin’ up stores –

We combined scripture and warfare, training the elect
in my Endtime Overcomer Survival Schools –
Kerry Noble: The fellowship was strong, the Aryan spirit
willing; WAR we declared against

James Ellison: We hardened our hearts with zeal for Lord Yahweh,
became consecrated prophets of the killer self –
Wayne Snell: Well, there was talkin’ and preparin’
but not a whole lot of action -

We blew up the pipeline taking natural gas to Chicago.
We cased the Alfred Murrah building
in Oklahoma City, chose our MO;
a battery of rockets, mounted on the back of a truck –
Kerry Noble: I couldn’t do it –
James Ellison: Kerry’s faith was weak, but Wayne!
That boy was aflame with the Spirit.
He got hold of a fifty-gallon drum of cyanide.
He was looking to hit the water supply,
Detroit or DC, poison a city of niggers –
Wayne Snell: We were calling down the Last Day,
I could feel it! Then I got stopped by the cops –
Louis Bryant: Truck was pretty beat and listed to one side.
I put on the flasher and signalled for him

Danny Coulson: Missouri State Troopers brought in Snell.
I went after King James. Two hundred agents
and the HRT round a barbed-wire compound
in the Ozarks. Some crazy-ass cult,
The Covenant, Sword and Arm of the Lord,
Christian survivalists, racist kooks,
terrorists working to bring on the end of the world –
James Ellison: The Beast besieged us. We thought the time
had come, and waited for the imminent
trump from the sky -
Danny Coulson: They were armed to the teeth. And so were we.
We had flamethrowers, Black Hawks and Bradley FVs;
for three squeaky-sphincter days I thought
we were gonna go in with them all.
Ellison wanted the fire-fight, to start Armaggedon –
Kerry Noble: Jim urged us to shoot it out, to bring down the Lord.
Coulson kept him talking; when it looked like
he’d lost him, he brought in Bob Millar to mediate.
Jim blustered and blew, ‘fore finally folding –
Danny Coulson: The women walked out singing hymns.
The men handed over their carbines.
We cuffed ‘em up, tore the place apart –
Kerry Noble: We drew twenty years, Federal time.
The fellowship ended, Babylon calling the shots –
Wayne Snell: King James bought himself out, stoolied for ZOG
at Fort Smith -
James Ellison: I couldn’t do jail-time, locked down with all those niggers.
I succumbed to Babylon’s temptings -
Wayne Snell: Grandpa Bob took him in at Elohim City;
I never understood that –
Robert Millar: I received him in love and Christian forgiveness.
He married my daughter; now he’s my son -
Wayne Snell: They put me on Death Row. I chose Grandpa Bob
as my spiritual adviser; I talked with him most weeks.
He made a home for Mary at Elohim City.
I was grateful for that –
Robert Millar: I gathered the militant saints. We kept down
our heads, re-trenched at the City of God.
Still we awaited the Coming of the Lord -
James Ellison: Nothing had changed. America’s children were hooked
on sex and drugs. The abortion holocaust
continued unabated. Gays had the whip-hand
in public schools and churches -
Robert Millar: Signs multiplied. The Jews made their move
in Russia and lopped the red bear’s head.
Iraq moved in on the oil. Yugoslavia tore apart
in a frenzy of blood -
James Ellison: The Arabs rose in the Holy Land. Jews levered
out the Aryans in Pretoria, gave up the veldt
to nigger rape and crime –
Robert Millar: The white horse rode the smoking Earth -
James Ellison: Afghanistan, Somalia, Indonesia, Peru -
Robert Millar: Colombia, Algeria, Lebanon, Uganda –
James Ellison: Panama, Cambodia, Ireland, Mozambique –
Robert Millar: The days of the world of sin were speeding
to their foretold end. We waited -
Danny Coulson: Some Identity nut in the Idaho panhandle
shot and killed a Marshall –
Bill Degan: The guy wouldn’t surrender to a warrant –
Randy Weaver: Was a frame, man, that snitch set me up –
Bill Degan: He was holed up on his compound with his family,
all of them carrying rifles and handguns.
We were looking to grab him –
Kevin Harris: We was walking in the woods –
Sammy Weaver: Striker picked up a scent and went crazy.
We thought a lion, maybe a bear –
Arthur Roderick: That big yeller dog was on me –
Kevin Harris: A Fed jumped outta the trees in full woodland camo
and opened up on Striker –
Sammy Weaver: “You killed my dog you son of a bitch!” –
Bill Degan: The kid fired on us. We had no choice –
Kevin Harris: Those ZOG bastards shot off Sammy’s arm
and raked him up the back as he turned to run home,
calling for his Daddy. I got one off and ran.
Sammy was dead. He was fourteen years old –
Arthur Roderick: The other kid shot Bill in the chest
and tailed it through the brush. Bill didn’t make it –
Tim McVeigh: I went up there in ’93. Their cabin was crushed
and the outbuildings levelled. There were kids’ clothes
and dented cans scattered under the fallen lumber.
You could still make out tank tracks in the dirt -
Randy Weaver: They slaughtered my son and my wife.

They opened the meadow, cleared out the scrub,
planted gardens, built pens for goats and chickens -

I’m sorry Mrs Weaver and her son got killed,
but they brought it on themselves –

Danny Coulson: He was stockpiling guns, turning semis
to fully automatic –
Tim McVeigh: They were Christian Americans, bearing arms
living free, like Joseph Smith and the founding fathers –
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people
to retain the right to keep and bear arms is,
as a last resort, to protect themselves
against tyranny in Government –
Danny Coulson: We had to go in –
Janet Reno: Yes -
Michelle Jones: We chose to stay –

Tim McVeigh: ZOG went in with tanks and tear gas.
They saved the girls from ‘child abuse’ by burning
them to death. They murdered eighty people,
twenty one kids –

Arthur Roderick – US Marshall involved in the initial exchange of fire at Ruby Ridge that left Sammy Weaver, Bill Degan and Striker the dog dead.
Bill Degan – US Marshall shot and killed by Kevin Harris in the initial exchange of fire at Ruby Ridge.
Carrie Ann Lenz – victim of the Oklahoma bombing.
